Nurse! More Ketchup!

For decades, dieticians, politicians and other professional killjoys have attacked America’s love for greasy, fattening food. The Heart Attack Grill is a haven for all those people who wish these other people would just shut up.

There’s no effort here to bury the calorie counts in fine print on the menu, or provide a token salad selection to satisfy the fussy food police. The specialty of the house is food that is terrible for you, but tastes so good it’s worth the risk.

You’ll find their Quadruple-Bypass Burger immortalized by Guinness as the World’s Most Calorific Hamburger – 9,983 calories. Single, Double and Triple-Bypass burgers are also available, along with Flatliner Fries (cooked in pure lard) and shakes make from butter fat. For the truly suicidal, The Heart Attack Grill also offers burgers stacked with anywhere from 5 to 8 patties, covered in cheese and bacon.

The atmosphere is as delightfully subversive as the menu. As you enter you’ll be given a hospital gown instead of a napkin, and waitresses dressed as naughty nurses will serve your meal. If you finish a Quadruple-Bypass Burger, they’ll gladly help you back to your car in a wheelchair.

Obviously, not every thinks this is funny – the place has been picketed and threatened with closure, and is probably #1 on Michelle Obama’s enemies’ list. In February of 2012 a patron actually suffered a heart attack on the premises, and an ambulance was called for another diner with coronary-like symptoms just two months later. True to form, the Grill didn’t try to cover up these events – owner Jon Basso answered media interview requests and defended the rights of Americans to eat what they like.

Sure, on some level this is very, very wrong. But in this politically correct age The Heart Attack Grill is also a refreshing reminder of the outlaw attitude that built Las Vegas in the first place.
