Travel Tips for Las Vegas

Just about every month of the year can be the best time to visit Las Vegas. It really depends on what you are coming here for. If your budget is tight, you want to aim for off-season times when there are no big sports events and no major conventions in town. August and post New Year’s to Valentine’s Day (with the exception of Super Bowl weekend) are slow times here in town. Rooms will be cheaper, deals will be offered on flights, and two for one show tickets will be easier to find. Lines will be shorter at the buffets.

The down side is that some of the shows go dark at those times and the big names usually appear in-season, unless they have a year round show. August can be very very hot…but it really is true that 110 with 18 % humidity feels no hotter than 85 with 85% humidity. Still, if your idea of a successful vacation is a great big pool and a dark even tan, you will love it here in August. The bigger hotels now have bands and pool parties to keep you entertained while you bake. Have water with you at all times.

The winter months might feel chilly to you if you live in Florida or some other hot, humid climate. Days are usually moderate and nights require light jackets or sweaters. If the winds are up it can feel downright cold. It still makes for delightful daytime sightseeing and wonderful entertainment, gambling and food at night. You won’t want to swim in the pools.

Another way to save is to avoid weekends. Friday and Saturday nights you are going to pay more for rooms. Don’t expect a deal on travel if you are planning to come on a Friday or leave on a Sunday night! For a three day holiday, pick Tuesday through Thursday for the best rates. Before or after holidays will also find you deals.

If you are calling around for reservations and the prices are outrageous or there are no vacancies, a big convention is in town. You can check with visitlasvegas.com to find out if something big is brewing. Unless you are part of it or can afford it, avoid booking during the National Finals Rodeo, the Consumer Electronics Show, any NASCAR race, Super Bowl, or March Madness.

If you want to be here for Christmas, or New Years, come early and leave late or you will never get a flight or a room. Don’t plan on discounts when flying on the 4th of July, Valentine’s Day, or New Year’s Day. Some shows go dark for updates and to give their performers family time.Figure out your budget and then find the time that fits it. Whatever month you visit, there will always be excitement, gambling, great dining, unique activities, and magnificent entertainment available in and around the city!
